Autumn Dreambird

Have you ever had a project in mind but were just waiting for the perfect yarn to jump out at you?   If so, then you will understand my recent experience with the Dreambird pattern on Ravelry.  I first saw it ages ago but just wasn’t sure what colors I wanted to do it in, what yarn was going to work or if I was even up to the challenge of all those short rows.  So I stuck it on my favorites list and decided to wait until the time was right.

I initially thought I would like to do it in some really bold colors, like a black background with really bright rainbow colored feathers but then it happened, the right yarn came along, which wasn’t what I first had in mind but all the pieces fell into place and I was in love.  They almost seemed TOO perfect, there was no way this project could possibly live up to the image I had in my head.

Scheepjes Invicta

Yarn info:
Scheepjes Invicta Colour (color 959)
Scheepjes Invicta Extra (color 1401)

Trying to get a photo that would show the richness and beauty of the colors in this yarn was next to impossible.  They still look freaking fantastic in this pic (if I do say so myself) but they are even better when you see them for real, so rich and fall-like.  The colors are a little more toned down than in the above photo.  I seriously almost went bananas when I opened the box after they arrived.  The color combination is so different from what I first imagined for this project, going from a black background to a more speckled beige, but when I saw these two together, I knew it was right.

Remember what I was saying about the project not possibly living up to the high expectations I had in my head?  Here’s a sneak peek…

Dreambird Scheepjes

Oh my word, it’s even better!  I mean seriously, how gorgeous is this and I’ve not even gone through all the colors yet.  I had to put it down at this point and force myself away from it because I have a lot of things to do before leaving on holiday this weekend…. but you can bet your butt that it’s coming with me!  There’s no way I’m leaving this behind.

I enjoy mostly every project I work on, but there’s something about this one that has me especially thrilled. I get the feeling this is going to be really special.

More updates soon!

This Dreambird is made with Sheepjes Invicta Colour / Invicta Extra yarn.  You can find a list of retailers that sell it here on the Scheepjes website.  It is also available worldwide Wool Warehouse*.

  1. Hi.. I have purchased the pattern for this shawl but it doesn’t work.. do you have the fully written pattern? The one they sell is half written and incomplete so I’m stuck at line 16.. please help!!

  2. Amazing colours!! Are those the quantities u used for the project? (4 invicta extra and 2 colour )

    • Hi Sara, no sorry, that was just the photo. Usually for a Dreambird I use 1x Invicta Colour and 2x Invicta Extra. You could probably squeak by with 1 invicta extra but I like to knit an edge around the neck which puts me a little over. It also will depend on your gauge, of course, so I’d buy two to be safe.

  3. I agree, those colours are amazing. Can’t wait to see it all done!
