I was just talking to a friend recently about Mamma Mia. I didn't see the show that was touring around some years ago, but everyone I know who went loved it. I don't think I'd like the film, though, even though I really like Meryl Streep and she has the ability to carry a film.

I saw "Chicago" in New York City before the movie came out and it was fantastic -- the film version is lacklustre by comparison. It's like watching a movie after you've read the book, always a disappointment.

I'm quite picky about musicals (David loved them, his favourite was "Music Man") -- when I lived in Australia "Grease" was playing 24/7 everywhere and it drove me insane -- but I think the best place to see them is live on stage, not the cinema.

I loved Grease as a teens, as well as Dirty Dancing. Well, a young teen, must have been 12-13 yrs old...

I didn't see Mamma Mia because just seeing the trailer on TV for about a month after the release was annoying enough.

When my son was 13 (about 10 years ago), his grade 8 class saw Singing in the Rain. Amazingly, they LOVED it even though it's over 50 years old. They walked around for weeks saying, "I caaaiiiin't staiind 'im!!" mimicking the diva character!

And it really does stand the test of time...with the corniness overshadowed by a sly satire of the Hollywood system...Kind of a foreshadowing of Hairspray and Grease in a way, as it makes fun of a moment in history; in this case, the beginning of talkie movies in the early 1930s...

And the dancing, of course, is amazing.

I haven't seen it, it looked like too good of a story line to be ruined by music! I think maybe it's one of those ones you have to see on the big screen with an enthusiastic audience, not a great sit at home and relax kind of a movie. And it's also a love it or hate it kind of thing too... so I figured I'd stay on the fence and not see it!

Hi,
Here via Blog365.

I'm a guy. Loved the stage version. See it before you totally give up. Only liked the movie because I remembered the play.

So aside from the singing (which is all ABBA) you didn't like this musical? Psshyeah, the singing sucked. They had no singers. They were actors.

See the play. 100 times better.

Oh, and one more thing? You should never judge a movie WHILE YOU ARE WORKING ON CRAFTS!!! :)

(And your comment luv thingy is about six posts behind!)

Other than that, have a nice day!
:) :) :)

I saw this one also.. well .. ok.. I fast forwarded most of it and prayed that it would end. The chick that played the other friend (not Christine Baranski) annoyed me to no end. I like Christine in Chicago though.
