I’m Twelve Again

bracelet1

One day I was looking through some craft websites and saw these friendship bracelets.  Suddenly I was 12 years old again and itching to make some.  I thought back to the day when I was a kid and making bracelets with gimp was all the rage, man I loved that stuff.

I decided to start with an easy pattern to learn how to make the knots.  I had all the materials needed since I have plenty of embroidery floss sitting around.  I don’t think it came out too bad for my first try!  I’d like to make one with a few more colors that is a bit more intricate.  Maybe one for 1-2 of my friends if they don’t think they are too lame to wear :P

I don’t think I’ll be going crazy with this or making tons of them, but they are fun to make and it’s nice to know how.  Makes for something easy and enjoyable to make while sitting out on the balcony in the sun.

They even have turtle patterns, you know I’ll be making one of those!

  2. Venezuela here and we did use to have those… Hmm, a turtle one sounds nice. Too bad I’m just pathetic when it comes to crafts… I always say I failed kindergarten!

Yours turned out nice! I wouldn’t have guessed it was your first!

    • They aren’t that hard, the knots are easy, the hard part is just remembering where you were at with the pattern. I had to undo it and go back a few times.

  3. Make me one with fishes on it :)

  4. omgosh… i remember making them back in the day. The one in the picture turned out well for not having made them in yrs.hmmm maybe you’ll make a few and bring them home with ya in oct.. hint haha ;)

  5. I don’t know if it’s just a Canadian/American thing or a girl thing but as someone who went to an all boys secondary school in London I never encountered friendship bracelets. It was only something I heard about in movies.

    • Yeah I think it’s probably both. I don’t recall boys making them back home, but they did wear them if the girl they liked gave them one! I’ll make you one Stu, everyone deserves at least one friendship bracelet in their lifetime!

  6. Wow thats so funny..I was looking at making one myself when I stumbled across a You-Tube video on it. I was about 13 and had both of my arms covered in them.

  7. For me, it was 10th grade; I remember sitting around between classes and such with the things pinned to the jeans as we twisted and braided. I might have to give it a shot again!
