TaTa Toetsen!

Today I had my last two exams (toets) for this part of my Dutch course and I’m so glad it’s over. I really hate tests! I think I did really well on luisteren (listening), schrijven (writing) and lezen (reading), but my spreken (speaking) was a NIGHTMARE. I’ve already said that but I just wanted to complain about it a little bit more. Hopefully the other three will carry me over enough to get by. My attendance wasn’t as good as it could have been this term, but then I also didn’t miss classes when I thought I would miss anything important. I will do better next term though, when I’ll hopefully be working on niveau 3!

Sadly, word is today that Mario Vazquez has decided to back out of the competition on American Idol. There was no reason given other than “personal reasons” so there is no juicy gossip to write about. It’s unfortunate to see him leave the competition because he is quite a good entertainer. On a brighter note though, he has been replaced by Nikko Smith who was voted off in the final eliminations for the top 12. Even though the circumstances suck, it’s nice to see Nikko getting another chance. I think if they had brought back Travis instead I would have had a hernia.. (yes, I really do put too much energy into these shows).

Bailey is still sick. He seems like his usual self, running around and acting like a retard… but he is still vomitting and having the trots sometimes. He’s finished with his second round of medication that we got at the vet last time so I’m not sure what to do. The vet we currently go to is two young women and I don’t really feel that confident when we go there. Xander says it’s just a language thing, because they seem to not sound like they know what they are doing because their english is so bad. I prefer the animal hospital where we used to take the cats, but this private vet is cheaper. I have to ask though, is this another case where you get what you pay for? It’s different when it’s a piece of furniture, but this is the health of our babies!

Today after class I went together with my american classmate to Ikea, otherwise known as heeeaveennnn. I somehow managed to leave without buying anything, which I think showed some impressive willpower on my part. I was having another look at the kitchen designs and am anxious to start looking into it again soon. We have cleared a LOT of stuff out of the apartment over the past few weekends, and managed to peel off about 40 thousand layers of wallpaper. I’m hoping to get the carpet up in the livingroom next weekend. With Bailey being so sick over the past few weeks, between the shitting and the vomitting.. I don’t even want to get into what kind of shape the carpet is in. There’s only so much scrubbing it will do, it’s cheap non-stain resistant carpet.

Yesterday I almost died of shock when I was brainlessly flicking through the channels on my TV and suddenly heard the theme song for Fraggle Rock. Of all the crappy 80’s TV shows I’ve seen reruns of here, this one I have NO complaints about! I was 10 years old again, clapping excitedly and singing .. Dance your cares away, Worry’s for another day. Let the music play, Down at Fraggle Rock! Thankfully Xander is a Fraggle-Fan too, otherwise I fear he might have thought I was losing my marbles. It’s just like when I was a kid, watching Fraggle Rock on a rainy Sunday afternoon… sure takes me back.

  1. DAMN!! You get Fraggle Rock! Am So jealous.

  2. Another Fraggle Rock fan right here! I LOVED that show, and was sad to see it cancelled after a relatively short run.

I also heard the Mario Vazquez news today… makes you wonder, doesn’t it? So much speculation. I’m also glad it was Nikko Smith and not someone like Jared Yates or Travis Tucker.

Speaking of American Idol, it’s going to start in a few minutes, so it’s time to shove a tape into the VCR. I can’t watch them on TV with commercials, the adverts here make my eyes bleed.
