My Television Addiction

I am the first to admit that I have a serious television addiction.  I make myself feel better by thinking things like hey, at least I don’t smoke crack!

It works pretty well.

People often ask how I find the time to watch all the shows I do.  It’s pretty easy really…

Firstly, I download every show I watch.  With the exception of the movie channels, Discovery and National Geographic I never watch anything on our real time TV.  It all gets watched on my laptop or via USB on the TV.

Project 365 (Day 50) Multitasking

The upside to downloading everything is that I can choose when and where I watch it. The shows sit there waiting for me to get around to watching them, rather than me planning my day around what is on.

I quickly took this photo this evening when I realized I’d forgotten my Project 365 photo for the day.  This is a typical scenario in my house.  My laptop set up with a TV show (in this case it was NCIS) while I fold the laundry.

I HATE folding laundry.  I’m pretty sure everyone does.  Why not watch something I like to help pass the time?

I know a lot of people don’t like TV, some don’t watch it at all or even own one.  Whatever.  To each their own.  I happen to love it in all it’s forms…  action, comedy, drama, reality TV… I love it all.  Like I said, there are worse things I could be into, right?

Feel free to just agree with me.

Speaking of my laptop, it’s still working!!  Well, I shouldn’t say still like it hadn’t broken down again, because it did.  The day after it died on me I put it to sleep while I went to the hospital and when I came home it was dead again.

Xander did the hairdryer thing again and it fixed it.  So now I’m afraid to turn it off or put it to sleep.  Whatever it is that cools down, it makes my laptop not work.  We are pretty sure that replacing the video card will fix it, but that itself is 200 euro.  If it turns out to NOT be just the video card we’d be out 200 euro that could have gone towards a new laptop.

Although… no new laptop would live up to Xena (that’s what we call her).  She’s big and tough, with a 20.5 inch monitor and lots of space for me to do all sorts of things at once.

It will be a sad day in the Soldaat household when I lose her.  A sad day indeed!

  1. Ha!!
This is just so my life you’re descibing! I watch my series on my mac while folding clothes, doing the dishes AND when I cook, I don’t even know how the normal tv even works..and honostly I don’t need it to either:p

  2. At first I thought “pff, at least *I’m* not addicted to TV!”.

Then I read on and realized I was about the same as you. I never actually watch TV per se, I download my show or watch on my computer. And even though I don’t do it much these days, I used to have my shows in the background when I was doing repetitive tasks such as learning Chinese (ever copied the same characters 100 times?) or plucking my eyebrows.

    So yeah, count me in!

    • I do the same thing, like right now I’m working on photos, replying to blog comments and surfing the web… all while Supernatural plays in the background :)

  3. I might have to try watching something while folding the laundry. I hate it too. Simone knows how much I try to avoid it.

  4. Totally agreeing with you. Watching some show while ironing and folding Mount McLaundry is the only way to go!

    • Yup, it’s the only way to make it through! It’s amazing the things you can make go by quicker with a good show on! If my laptop was more mobile and took up less space it would come to the kitchen with me too!

  5. LOL. I can see my life being that way in a month. I have never taken care of a household before, so I’ll need to get used to it. I also love vegetating in front of the tube. :P

I just asked my Dutchy the size of his laptop screen, it is only 17.3″ and I thought it was massive. I can’t imagine yours being bigger, I hope it stays alive!

    • Yeah my screen is huge, and so far so good! :) It’s probably best if you DON’T do what I do when you get here, better to get out and about and try to integrate. Learn from my mistakes haha save the TV for later!
