Sorry I still disagree wholeheartedly.

Katie – just saying you are a professional write and former teacher doesn’t mean much. Give some research to back it up. Where does it say that “nitch” was the English language’s original intent? Just because it says it in an American dictionary, doesn’t make it true. It wouldn’t be the first word Americans have bastardized and claimed as their own. Hell, I use many of them… just not this one :P

Hi all –

I just came across this string. I’m a professional writer and former teacher, and the word is, actually, pronounced “nitch”. That was the English language’s original intent, anyway.

“Neesh” is a recent construction – made popular by sales people and motivational speakers who wanted to sound fancy or like they know French.

So today, both proununciations are widely used and accepted. However, when I hear someone say “neesh,” their credibility gets knocked down a few notches in my book. It’s like saying “epp-ih-toem” instead of “uh-pit-o-me.”

As in: This conversation is the epp-ih-toem of neesh.

Came across your rant while researching the word nitch as a variant spelling of nitch. According to Webster’s New International Dictionary, second edition (1945; which I’m certain predates you by several generations) nitch has long been a variant spelling of niche.

I find it interesting that those who accuse others are usually most guilty of what they criticize.

So who’s really the “dumb bitch” with the open mouth, eh?

Naw, I don’t feel sorry for her. I hear she was outrageous on that reality show of hers.

Today I was listening to Howard Stern and they were talking about how the team at American Idol actually take extreme measures to keep Paula away from the talent and even have a code name for her when they are trying to get her away from the guys ‘Mrs. Robinson’. No lie!

So not only is she nutso, but she’s old and pervy too! :P

I think I more feel sorry for her than like her. I just don’t hate her at least. She does comes across as such a flake, but I think that’s why AI keeps her. Randy is the more average guy/dog, Simon is a bastard (love him tho!) and Paula is the flake. It’s like a trio of different people who seem to mesh somehow and ya don’t wanna mess that up.
