Now, you know I love body modification as much as the next gal, but come on!  There is a point where you can take a good thing too far.  I give this guy some points for originality and individuality but, in my opinion, this is such a terrible idea.   One would say I’m not one to talk since I also have something in my face that I wasn’t born with, but I will be able to take mine away when I grow tired of it.   This guy is stuck with this for life and no t-shirt, pair of jeans or scarf is going to hide it.

It’s his body though and apparently he and his girlfriend are both quite happy with it, so who am I to judge?  He’s certainly gotten a lot of attention from it though.  From what I gather the news of his tattoo has gone pretty much viral here on the interwebs.

Bad idea…

I took it out at 11am this morning and at 6pm I started getting scared and tried to put it back in.

It wouldn’t go in.

BUGGER!!  What have I done?  I couldn’t believe that after only a few hours my piercing had started to grow over already!   I figured it was probably a bad idea, but like most bad ideas I have, I did it anyway.   I’m such a moron.

I did end up getting it back in, but not without a little whimpering and eye watering.   It’s tender now but it’s back in place.  Now I know that taking this piercing out for a day just won’t work.  If the situation ever arises that I have to not wear it somewhere, I’ll either have to let it grow over and forget about it (nooo!) or get a clear retainer piercing.   I don’t quite get the retainer piercings to be honest, it’s not like you can’t still see them!

I never did try to put my tongue piercing back through because I knew I’d be too tempted to keep it if I could get it back in again.   Now I know that if I ever remove the lip piercing, putting it back in won’t be an option, at least not after more than about 6 hours.  Interesting…

I decided to remove it today when I noticed a small chip in my front tooth.   Nothing anyone else would notice but since my Dentist Fiasco back in April, I’m seriously tooth-paranoid.

The last thing I want is more visits to the dentist than are absolutely necessary and I’ve already gotten my 6 month reminder that I have to go back for a checkup.   Getting that tooth out was bearable but it’d really suck to have front teeth damaged.

Plus, I was honestly getting a little tired of it anyway.  Guess I’ve outgrown it.

Sure feels nice to be able to move my tongue around my mouth without the piercing clanking off my teeth.

I have always said that if I were ever to get glasses I’d totally get thick black funky ones… and that I did!! I don’t have them yet, of course, they won’t be ready until Aug 19th, but I got a picture of me with the frames they had for show.

I’m happy with them! Though wearing glasses at all will take getting used to!

I also got another pair, because they are free, like.. you get a 2nd pair free. So I got these.. they are ok but I like the other ones better.

My eyesight isn’t THAT bad, they said it’s a very slight problem. I don’t have to wear the glasses all the time and will be fine without them, but I do see a definate improvement when I have them on (as I saw through the wacky goggles that they put on to test the prescription). Will I get used to having them on my face? Who knows… hopefully the novelty of the new accessory will last a while!

As you can see, the vertical labret is healing up nicely as well! It took about 1.5 – 2 weeks before it started feeling normal. Meaning, without any swelling, discomfort or crusting around the openings. I really love it too, especially because no parts of it are INSIDE my mouth. The fact that it’s a surface piercing makes me a bit nervous though, I really don’t want this one to migrate out on me. Thankfully I know what to watch for this time!

It took us a while to get him to stop wiggling in between the seats trying to get on my lap. I also had to train Xander not to come to my window if he gets out of the car because the dog leaps on me and scratches me to bits trying to get out to be with him. I look battered, between the bruises on my thighs from him stomping on me (Bailey I mean, not Xander) and scratches all on my arms from him trying to climb his way over me to get to the preferred puppy-parent.

He wasn’t the only one having fun, mind you. After almost 7 years without a car, I was just as bad as the dog for sitting excitedly in my seat and sticking my head out the window to blow my hair back.

As you can see I finally took the plunge and gave my hair another chop. It’s quite short in the back and grows longer towards the front, which is exactly what I wanted because the hair hanging on my neck was way too hot when I’m exercising. I went into the shop thinking I was going to get my black and red colors again but decided to go for something different. So I got what they called “Purple Black” with “Purple Red” streaks through it. So overall my hair looks some kind of blackish, reddish, purplish color… works for me.

After losing my labret I’ve been feeling naked on my face. Between my natural colored hair and lack of labret I suddenly felt like such a wallflower. So boring and dull… of course maybe that means I’m a total attention whore (who.. me?! *mockshock*) by always wanting to do new things piercing / tattoo / hair -wise but it’s just who I am.

After almost two months of deliberation I decided to take the plunge and get my vertical labret.

I had it done at Tattoo Bob on the Delistraat here in Rotterdam. They are the same people who did both of my tattoos and all of my piercings except the labret I removed. I can’t rave about them enough… it’s a family business and they are all very friendly. Going there is so much fun, I almost wish I knew them better so I could just hang out there all day. haha

Now about the piercing.

Every piercing differs when it comes to the pain of the actual piercing process and the pain afterwards. Some piercings I’ve had didn’t hurt much at all at any time, like my eyebrow. Other piercings, like my tongue, didn’t hurt during the piercing but hurt very badly for up to a week afterwards. My nose piercing hurt for a split second and was quite sore afterwards, but not a sharp pain .. rather that pain like after you get your ear pierced, a really strong heat.

I would have to say that the vertical labret was the most painful during the piercing of all I’ve had done. Firstly, because it’s a surface piercing they need to mark the point of entry and exit. They can’t just mark one spot and go straight through like with the labret or nose… which means when the time comes to actually do the piercing, they have to go slower to make sure to come out at the right spot. This is what makes it more painful, because it lasts longer.

Once it’s through, it hurts quite badly for about a minute or two, but when the piercing is in fully and it’s not being tugged or twisted anymore the pain dies down very quickly.

Afterwards, I would compare the pain to any other cut or sore in or on your mouth. It doesn’t hurt most of the time and the only time you feel any pain is if you nudge it by mistake or something salty you eat gets into it. It seems to be about the same level of pain afterwards as the eyebrow or labret. Tender but not a bother at all, it doesn’t stop you from eating, drinking, or doing anything else you’d ordinarily do. Although, I’ve been very careful and kept my hubby’s kisses to quick pecks so far and don’t imagine I’ll be doing anything more adventurous sexually for at least one to two weeks.

I go back in 5-7 days to have this stud removed and a bit smaller one put in… If I take the pain factor, the look and feel of it into consideration… this piercing definately ranks among one of my fav’s.

My piercing history:

• First year I was here I got my first nose piercing that refused to heal no matter how well I took care of it, had to be removed
• A year later I got my eyebrow pierced, it migrated out as if my body just spit it out
• Few months later had the eyebrow done again only deeper, again it migrated out
• Somewhere in the middle of it all I got my tongue pierced, which is still good *knock wood*
• Few months later had my nose redone, so far that is staying well *knocks wood again*
• About a year later I had my labret done (below my lip) and when I got home I realized it was off center, removed it
• Two weeks later, had it redone, still slightly off center but kept it anyway

That brings us to my latest disappointing piercing experience… losing my labret forever.

A few nights ago I was cleaning my teeth before bed and looked really closely at my front teeth and noticed that the gum below my right front tooth on the bottom (left if you are looking at me) has been receding. The back disk on the piercing on the inside of my lip has been rubbing against it which has caused the gum to get a bit worn. I took it out immediately and it has already mostly grown over. *sigh*

I feel so naked without it… there isn’t really a way to explain to someone who doesn’t do the piercing thing other than to imagine looking at yourself in the mirror without eyebrows. After years with these piercings they are like a part of my face that I am used to and it’s wierd to see myself without it. I loved my labret and now it’s gone, BAH!!

I’m not sure what I want to do now, I really want to get a new piercing but I don’t want something that is going to be on the inside of my lip, so that leaves out a lip ring. There is only one other piercing I like but I’m not sure if I should go ahead and do it or give it some time and see if I can get used to this plain / boring feeling about the way I look without it. The one I am thinking of getting is a Vertical Labret, which I know to people who don’t get the piercing thing looks painful and ACK! … but I quite like it.

Decisions decisions …
