Pittsburgh: The First Day

Shadyside Inn Mansion Suites

RIGHT, so back to the story of our visit to Pittsburgh.  It all seems like such a whirlwind now, I can’t believe it has been almost four months already.  Why is it that the time you spend waiting for something drags on, yet the time that passes after something flies like the wind.  Life can be so bizarre that way, can’t it? Preparing for the trip actually went really well.  I had lists on top of lists on top of lists, and I packed like a boss! Expat packing priorities, always make room for stroopwafels! A photo posted by Tammy ... Read More »

Omg! We’re Moving … Eventually!

moving.jpg

I’ve been meaning to write this post since we got back from holiday, so here it is – We’re moving to Pittsburgh! Wow, I don’t even know where to start!  It’s such a huge thing over here in Casa Soldaat, this impending move.  It’s been in the making for quite some time and while it still doesn’t feel quite real yet, it’s actually happening!  I’m not sure when, that is all down to US immigration, but it is happening.  Holy crap! Let’s start at the beginning.  It all started a few years ago when my husband got involved in robotics.  ... Read More »

Putting Project Baby to Bed

76fb_thumb.jpg

See what I did there?  Putting baby to bed… Anyway, yes, this is the post.  That post that we all thought would possibly come someday where I talk about us reaching the end of the road with trying to have children.  Well, here we are at the end of the road.  I probably shouldn’t say it like that, it’s not as though we’ve walked down this road that ends at a cliff where our lives come to an end.  Rather, we’ve come to an intersection where this road ends and it’s time for us to turn in another direction.  Who ... 365 Days of Self Portraits: Days 36 – 42

SONY DSC

In an effort to gain self confidence and deal with body image issues still remaining after my weight loss, I decided to take part in a 365 project focusing on self portraits.  My hopes are that after a year of taking a photo of myself ever day, that I will stop hating photos of myself, stop picking apart the things I hate about my body and learn to accept myself in a way that I haven’t been able to before.  It is uncomfortable, challenging and at times scary as I am also putting myself out there in a way I ... So Nice to See You Again!

groomerfeat

It felt like ages since I’ve seen Bailey’s eyes, or Pixel’s little legs.  A trip to the groomer was definitely in order. I love it so much when they come home all tidied up and I can actually see Bailey looking at me.  See Pixel’s little wiener body and those freaking adorable faces! I love my dogs so much, they are so different but each so awesome in their own ways… and now, most importantly, they smell so much better! Read More »

The Best Year Ever – In Photos!

1yrvidfeat

Something I really wanted to include in my 1 year post-op update was a video slideshow of everything that has taken place over the past year.  It turned out to be way more work than I was expecting (self imposed, of course!) so I did my update and saved it for later.  I would have loved to include lots of things, like photos of different meals, more day to day photos and people who inspired me… but after seeing how many photos I wanted to add, and needing to find a 3rd song, I agreed that I would keep cutting ... My Gastric Bypass: 1 Year (Long Overdue!) Update

1yearfeat

Well, can you believe it? It’s been one year already!  One year ago at the very time that I am typing this I was just out of surgery and my exciting post-op experience was about to begin!  Seriously, I have been living in a time warp because it feels like it was just a few months ago.  I cannot believe that it’s been a year already.  What an amazing, crazy, mind-blowing year this has been! I’ve not given a proper update since my 7 month point, sorry for that. I really did have the best of intentions going in but ... Read More »

My Gastric Bypass: 7 Month Photo Update

7monthfeat

So it’s been 7 months now since my surgery and I am still as happy as can be! It has been a long day today and the next few days will be equally busy. I’m totally tired out… but, I knew if I didn’t do this update now that it wouldn’t get done for quite a while. I’m not going to do the usual writeup, because to be totally honest, nothing has really changed since I last wrote.  I think I’m reaching that point where it all just becomes life.   Everything isn’t new anymore and now it is just about ... My Husband’s New Wife

haircutfeat

Don’t worry, I’m still talking about me!  He hasn’t gone out and found another wife or anything, even tough I’ve been urging him to find one that likes doing housework.  I could get into a little Sister Wives action if the other wife would do all the stuff I hate. No, what I’m talking about is my husband’s recent exclamations about how he feels like he’s getting a new wife! There have been changes happening over the last few years, especially since my gastric bypass in January.  It was only over the last few days that he’s really been feeling ... Read More »

30 Days of Truth: Day 17

30daysfeat17

The book that has changed my views on something recently is a book by Zoe Harcombe called Stop Counting Calories & Start Losing Weight. After a year on Weight Watchers I was four months into the most rotten plateau I’ve ever experienced.  I was also disappointed in the lack of improvement in my health.  So my in laws suggested I read this book, as it had changed their lives, and everything soon changed for me as well. It totally opened my eyes to how flawed the calorie counting diets system is, how I shouldn’t be afraid of healthy fats but ... Read More »

Confessions of a Fat Girl: Fat and Feminine?

nailsfeat

These are my nails, fake ones.  Pretty, aren’t they?  I got them done at Nagelstudio Ellen in Barendrecht and I couldn’t be happier with them. She is awesome, she also took the photos.  Check out the swirlys, cute huh? You may be wondering why I got acrylic nails. I mean, that’s a little lush for a housewife, isn’t it?  A bit extravagant? Maybe even a bit silly?  Not really. They are my gift to myself for continuing to lose weight and get closer to my goals. Something I can have every day to look at, feel pretty and smile.  I ...
