Holiday Review: Les Cabanes de Rensiwez

After putting Project Baby to bed Xander and I made a promise to each other to make a point of enjoying our freedom.  To take time out together and take little getaways when we can and splurging on ourselves when we are able. We had had such a stressful year in 2013 that we really wanted to find a place where we could get away early in the year and just relax.  I scoured the internet looking for just the right place and nothing seemed to fit the bill.  Anywhere in the Netherlands just didn’t offer the privacy or space ... TV Review: My Unexpected Love Affair With The Neighbors

One thing about TV is that it can sometimes surprise you.  Sometimes you are so excited about a show and when it gets started, it’s disappointing.  Other times, you go into a pilot thinking it’s going to be terrible, and walk away pleasantly surprised.  This happens to me all the time, and one recent, rather extreme, case came to mind today as I was watching one of my shows. Have you ever seen an ad for a TV show or movie that just looks so absurd that you have to watch it?  Even though you are thoroughly convinced that you ... Read More »

Movie Review: One For The Money

Ok, this has been a long time coming but I think I’m finally able to write about it! haha  I don’t know if you followed my love of the Stephanie Plum series but this is something I’ve been discussing for a while.  I used to daydream about a movie being made from this series and came up with my own castings for the movie.  I think they were pretty good but whatevs. When it was announced that there would actually be a movie and I saw the real castings, I wasn’t so sure about it but I thought that if ... Polish Review: Kleancolor Chunky Holo Black

Now that I’m back on the nailpolish bandwagon, I needed to add a little sparkle to my life. I couldn’t choose which of my new polishes to try so I closed my eyes and picked one!  Well, two actually.   The above photo is a base of Revlon’s Lunar with a top coat of Kleancolor Chunky Holo Black. As you can see this polish is one of those uber cool holos that changes color depending on how the light hits it.  The colors range from a nice deep red, through the spectrum of oranges, yellows and greens.  Loooooove! The Kleancolor Chunky ... Read More »

Holiday Destination Review: Pic du Midi

One of the main reasons we chose the Pyrenees as our little side trip while in the south of France was because I’d seen the Pic du Midi online.  Once I saw it, I knew that’s where I wanted to go, and thankfully Xander wasn’t at all bothered and was happy to let me choose the location.  We specifically chose our campground because it was within a reasonable distance. We actually visited the area twice, but the first day it was too cloudy and they said we wouldn’t be able to see anything, so we moved on and visited some ... Read More »

Review: We Need to Talk About Kevin

Ages ago I read the book We Need to Talk About Kevin and this is what I had to say about it: This book sucked hardcore for the first few chapters and I had to force myself through it. It was long winded and the author appears to go out of her way to use run-on sentences and difficult language. I hate giving up on a book though, and I tend to try to push through them in case there is something better to be found. I’m glad I did with this one, because it got very very good. Once ... Review: Camping Pyrenees Natura

When my husband and I agreed that we wanted to take a few days in the Pyrenees during our trip to the south of France, we initially wanted to just book ourselves a gite (cabin) or B&B.  It turned out that with only a few weeks notice and us arriving the week before the Tour de France, that wasn’t going to happen.  So we started looking into alternatives. We looked at a place that had Mongolian Yurts, which looked really cool, but were unfortunately booked already.  Then I thought, well… if we were going to stay in a tent, why ... Read More »

TV Review: The Big C

When I first heard about Showtime’s new show The Big C last year, I wasn’t sure what to expect.  All I knew was that it was a show about Cancer, it sounded like a Reality show that would hit way too close to home for me.  Cancer? Really? Do they have to go there? Having lost so many people I love to Cancer, I couldn’t stand the thought of it being made light of at all.  I had images in my head of these people being exploited for money, possibly doing this Reality TV show to make money to leave ... Switched at Birth – Watch it!

Below is a trailer for a new ABC Family show called Switched at Birth.  It is still in its first season but I’m crazy insane over it already.  I won’t get into who is in it or what it’s about because if you clicked play on the video you already know all that.  So I’m just going to tell you it’s awesome and if you haven’t been watching it already, please do so.. you won’t regret it! For those of you who don’t know how to use Bit Torrent or don’t live in North America where you can get easy ... Read More »

The 19th Wife: Book Review

The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff My rating: 2 of 5 stars I found this book to be too all over the place for my liking. It says it’s all fiction but parts of it rest heavily on historical facts. To me, it felt like a decent fiction story stuck in between a lot of historical documents. The story of Jordan and his mother didn’t have enough substance to stand on its own, but the historical aspects have already been done in other books. I seems like the author just decided to throw them both together and hope they’d fill ... Read More »

My First Pedicure – Review: Le’s Nail and Spa

This is a post that was originally written for Canadutch, my personal blog. Seeing as it pertains to nails, I thought I would copy it here as well, as I think some of you will get a kick out of it! Last week my friend Penny and I got together for pedicures.  It was my very first pedicure ever, can you believe it?!  It’s something I’ve always wanted to do but either I didn’t want to spend the money on it or I was freaked out about people messing with my feet. Penny kept pushing me on it, so I ... Read More »
