Last year I wrote a blog about The Best Day of Summer 1996 from an old blog entry. I was looking back to where I was 10 years before.
To sum it up, where I was 10 years before was spending the day driving around the Cabot Trail with my friend Peggi and two friends we had picked up hitchhiking.
I’d always wondered what happened to them, now thanks to Facebook – I know! The other day I decided to take a stab at it and search for them and sure enough, there they were! I know, how very stalker like of me, but what the hell!
I found a profile that I thought might be Paul and sent him a message asking if he had ever hitchhiked across Canada with a guy named Brian. He replied a short time later telling me he had and asking how the heck I knew that! I explained to him who I was and pointed him towards the blog entry last year. He remembered who I was and remembered that day as well as I did, he also helped me find Brian (the guy I had the massive crush on at the time), who is also on Facebook!
I remember being so angry with Peggi that day. I wanted to stay and hang out with them in the evening and camp out but she was hellbent on getting back to her boyfriend. I think I should thank her for it now because here is Paul’s version of events that took place after we left them that day…
Well, we ended up camping out on some beach and woke up at 5am in a puddle of water in the middle of storm. The second we got out of the tent it took off into the air, the wind and rain was so strong. I had to chase the ten before it got swept out to sea.
After that we had hung out in the public washrooms and tried to dry everything on the hand dryers. I came down with a cold and want to bite the bullet and get a train back to Ontario but then a car stopped for us with a girl who just arrived from England driving all the way to Toronto. So about 16 hours later we were back home in our own beds.
Can’t say I’m too sorry I missed that! Poor guys! At least we got to have that one very cool day with them though, and are even able to catch up on what they’ve been up to since then. I love the Internet!
