Bye Mr. Bunker … :(

I am a horrible mother…

Today Xander found one of our turtles dead in the aquarium. Now the other Bunker is left all alone.

Bunker

I had a feeling over the past few days that one of them wasn’t well, and I mentioned it a few times but Xander told me they were fine so I didn’t press it. I should have gone with my gut instinct and done something… cleaned the aquarium, taken him to the vet… something…. but I did nothing… and now he’s dead.

My heart is broken, I loved those little guys yet I know it’s my fault that he’s dead because I didn’t take good enough care of him.

I don’t have the heart to leave the other Bunker alone so we’ll probably go get another baby turtle to put in with him, and I’ll make sure to pay closer attention and take better care of them.

How did I ever fool myself into thinking I was ready for children when I can’t even take care of my pets properly. :(

  1. Oh so sad, now your turtle is a ninja turtle in turtle heaven.
    :(

  2. Sorry to hear about your turtle :( We women need to learn to listen to our guts more. I think for the most part we happen to be right.

Hey you are still on 25peeps! Congats. I just went and peeped you again :)

    Cheers from another canadian

  3. It’s always hard to loose a pet but don’t be sad and beat yourself up over it. About the children comment, that’s not true. Things will be better and when u get another turle it will be okay. good luck with this.

  4. sucks to lose a pet…any bet. Don’t beat yourself up over it. A am sure a new Bunker will help the remaining one get over the loss.

    *hugs*

  5. Aww what an adorable little dude. It i so hard to lose our pets.

  6. I sorry, but don’t be too hard on yourself. If we could really save our loved ones by solely by taking good care of them, we would ever die.

  7. Aw, I am sorry about your turtle, they have great little personalities…and it is very sad to lose a little friend.

  8. I know how you feel… Just moments before I was to take my son over to his dad for 3 weeks… his goldfish was drifting upside down in its bowl… and I think it was because I did not handle him careful enough cleaning his bowl the day before… I am usually very good about that… but I felt awful about this one…

  9. Now I had turtles as a child. I don’t think you can sell them in the US anymore. Something about some fungal disease they can carry. But my mother when mine got sickly would put them in a special brine for a couple hours, then put them back. Amazing how long my turtles lived.

I even found a snapping turtle once. My dad only let me keep it a few days, made me put it back in the neighbors pond. Party pooper.

  10. argh I was trying to say I *heart* you and it cut me off. I clicked your peep and I’m off to visit the guestmap and a few other areas on your blog, too.

Thanks for joining in on the free credits contest on my blog, too!

  11. I think you are being hard on yourself too. We had a guinea pig die right after we returned from being out of town. We had a pet sitter taking care of her and she blamed herself for some time.

I never felt it was her fault…the g.pig was getting up there in years and maybe our trip stressed her out. You really never know! It can be physical things you do not see.

I just came by to say I

  12. Sorry to hear about your turtle. I had a couple about ten years ago and they were fun pets.

  13. Sorry about your turtle and I agree with the others above. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Enjoy your new baby!

  14. No need to be so hard on yourself. You really couldn’t know. It’s really tough in these situations!

  15. Aww, so sorry about the turtle but it doesn’t make you a bad mum, my sons goldfish died this week and he was gutted and I felt the same but thats the circle of life and it teaches children valuable lessons.

I’m sure you are a fabulous mum!

  16. Tammy,
Animals can be incredibly difficult when it comes to illnesses. Some show next to no symptoms until it’s too late for anything to be done. Kids on the other hand will scream blue murder.

Dont be hard on yourself xxx

  17. What a cute turtle. I’m sorry he died, but don’t be so hard on yourself. Think about what a good life he had with you. You probably loved him more than most turtles ever are. Because of you, he had a quality life.
